Aurukun yiki-yiki didgeridoo, key D
$1,750
Sound sample of this didgeridoo:
Comments: An exceedingly rare and beautiful didgeridoo of the yiki-yiki variety from Far North Queensland of 1960s vintage. Exquisitely painted featuring both a marine and terrestrial theme, there are representations of fish, stringray, shark, crab and jellyfish as well as snake-in-tree (Christianity reference?), butterfly, serpentine, avian and anthropomorphic figures.
This yiki-yiki was made for use as evidenced by the deliberately carved mouthpiece opening displaying patina.
