A diversity of Australian Aboriginal clapsticks of unusual form, high cultural integrity and remarkable rarity are presented here. Clapsticks are paired wooden percussive instruments usually made from ironwood and other hardwood species that may be undecorated or richly adorned with painted designs. Carving and incised decorative work may indicate objects of ceremonial order or functions beyond music-making.
