A large powerful yidaki made by Djalu. Despite the
physical size of this beast, this instrument is easy to play
due to the high back pressure and good resonance... the slightest
breath will cause the roof to shake. Vocals are good and clear.
Back pressure is high. Easy to hit horn note. Comfortable
size natural wooden mouthpiece.
In terms of craftsmanship, this is as good as Djalu has ever
made. Nice conical shape, smooth finish, and sealed on the
outside with wood glue.
A good fast playing yidaki with excellent punchiness
and nice traditional acoustics. Good depth and balance, easy
overtone note, natural wooden mouthpiece...
Gapu (water) painted designs in the mid-section
of the instrument.
A very good value yidaki of a high standard... this
sort of instrument is getting more difficult to obtain.
A highly responsive instrument, entirely natural
termite-eaten bore, fast action, wonderful back pressure.
Comfortable size natural wooden mouthpiece.
Listen to Yomunu
demonstrate on this yidaki in the MP3 clip! Take note
of the first song and the tongued-doublet accents - a very
difficult rhythm worth learning.
An excellent Djalu yidaki, natural termite-eaten bore,
good depth, nice balance, good back pressure. Slight curve
to instrument and moderately large bell end. Comfortable size
natural wooden mouthpiece.
This is a lovely Djalu yidaki hewn from gungurru
(woolybutt tree) which has a nice curvy grain that is known
for its durability. Classic traditional voice with ideal interval
between fundamental and overtone. Very responsive and almost
plays by itself!
An outstanding yidaki, the sort Djalu
likes to play! One for the traditionalist who wants to learn
and practise the rhythms and techniques that Djalu is fond
of teaching. Good backpressure and excellent tone for a low
instrument in C#. Easy overtone notes!
One of Djalu's great Fs!!! Superb termite-eaten bore and
beautiful flared internal sound chamber - with good bell -
giving nice depth and bass to acoustics. Very responsive voice...
the slighest breath gives a big sound! Good weight balance
and excellent versatility with this one!
Wow! This Djalu yidaki has it all - deep
rumbling bass notes, excellent backpressure, highly responsive
action, and an overtone note like a fog-horn! A fantastic
player with both fundamental and overtone key in E flat. Quite
light considering the size of this monster!
A highly collectible piece due to the natural
humps in the body of the yidaki - these are gundirr
or termite mounds. According to Yolngu, Wititj the Olive Python
enters gundirr to shed its old skin and emerges fresh
and new. For the Galpu, this symbolism is used in ritual cleansing.
Awesome! This is the largest Djalu yidaki
we have ever come across. In addition to the monstrous 18
cm bell, this yirdaki has one sweet voice. Powerful, loud,
easy overtone, great traditional voice, excellent back pressure.
One for the collector or museum.
An exceptional yidaki with strong backpressure,
great resonance, excellent responsiveness, easy overtone notes...
Djalu is justifiably the greatest didjeridu maker alive, and
we feel honoured to showcase his best works on this website.
An exquisite yidaki by Djalu that is testament
to his extraordinary skill. Wonderful acoustics in all respects,
powerful yet controlled, superb depth and earth-shaking bass
undertones. We cannot sing enough praise for this visionary
man and his best works.
