We do not have a price for this instrument... on the one hand, it did not cost us very much, but on the other hand, it is a very rare and distinct type of instrument. Here's an opportunity to own a yidaki made by the greatest of the greats. Laga does not usually make instruments for sale, we've only previously had one of his sticks for sale in the iDIDJ Store. Here's another.

A smallish, lightish instrument, this stick punches way above its weight. As yidaki devotees would know, it is the inside that counts. With a perfect mouthpiece of 30 mm, the slender neck region gives way to a nicely formed cavenous sound chamber in the bell. The result is concentrated power, beautifully balanced acoustics, spot-on back pressure, and a ripper of an instrument!

Another 'D' mago and another superlative stick. This is an instrument suitable for the 'Malwa' genre of song and dance, quite different to Kun-borrk and Bungalinybungaliny according to Darryl and not the same as Bunggul. Darryl talks a little bit about the seriousness of Malwa in the accompanying YouTube clip and gives a demonstration of the Malwa didgeridoo rhythm that accompany the ceremony. Darryl's 2nd father, Ambrose Cameron, was a noted Malwa songman.

This is a lovely ochre-painted yidaki made by Mirarra who goes by the name of Bolawuy these days. Crafted from a bloodwood species rather than the more typical stringybark, this instrument has tons of natural resonance complemented by good back pressure owing to the natural conical-shaped bore. Thin-walled and lively, this is a rare offering from a craftsman who only occasionally makes instruments today.

A classic Djalu yidaki in the highly desirable F/F# fundamental/overtone combination. Of particular note is the stick's high degree of acoustic elasticity which gives the player an immense in-control feeling and lends itself particularly well to fast, traditional syncopated rhythms.

Volume, power and responsiveness are delightfully ample, and the thick thunderous voice that Djalu cherishes clearly evident. This sort of quality is getting harder to come by as Djalu advances in age.

This is a long, skinny yidaki, quite an old one from the 1980s which has been a part of the iDIDJ Collection. It isn't so easy to play owing to the small mouthpiece, but would suit a child or a boy starting to learn to play the didgeridoo.

Dhapa Ganambarr is a young gun of a yidaki player. He makes instruments occasionally and it is evident that his playing skills inform his crafting... all his yidaki are consistently good. Some of his instruments are better than others and this is such an example - it has been used in the local community and, though dry sounding, has that special sound that Yolngu cherish. There are indigenous repairs consistently with extended use and you'll be rewarded with treating the instrument inside and outside to bring out its sonic best. Specially priced for those who are willing to put in a bit of work to restore it to its full glory.

This is a really special yidaki that plays in F#/G#, measures 137 cm long, with a 26-31 mm mouthpiece, a bell end of 10.5-12 cm diameter, and weight of 4.7 kg. Contact us for more details.

You're really spoilt for choice here with 10 absolutely outstanding mago made by our favourite mago maker, Bob Burduwal. Burduwal and his brother Jack Nawilil were part of the late David Blanasi's dance troupe in the late 1960s and early 1970s (see pic on page 80 in Rolf's Walkabout). Burduwal has certainly learnt his craft well. The singularly most consistent and brilliant mago craftsman alive, his latest offering of 10 specially commissioned instruments know no equal. Acoustically, they are difficult to separate such is the consistency and quality of these sticks. Many remind us of mago made and used by the great Blanasi.

A stunning old Croker Island mago with exquisite acoustics. Although playing in the fundamental note of G#, there is a tremendous amount of bass response that makes it sound like a lower-keyed stick. There is that full-bodied, punchy, abudantly rich voice with incredible nuance. Coupled with strong backpressure, every little movement of the tongue elicits a response in this super-sensitive, powerfully-built, high-octane instrument. A rare instrument to drool over from a region which is under-represented in collections.

This is an outstanding mago that has been used ceremonially. A stunner of a player, it has great resonance on account of thin walls throughout with medium-strong back pressure aiding in ease of play.

There's a nice light handling patination to the ochres and rubbing to the bell end consistent with ceremonial use. Ochre pigments are still relatively bright and in good condition. Used ceremonial mago are rare on the market, great instruments are not often sold but kept by family for community use.
