This is a fun yidaki to play, those who were on Skype with myself and David Dharrapuy a few weeks ago would have recognised this stick (see the iDIDJ Forum). Can't remember the details on this yidaki like who made it but will look up my records. What I can say is that it is a brilliant player that is hard to put down and is something I regularly gravitate towards whenever I have a few spare moments to practice. The knobby, convoluted shape of this instrument gives it a very special type of acoustic signature which I feel drawn to, maybe it is that howling quality coupled with bassy response - in the key of G! This is a prized yidaki for the purist.

David Bambinat Blanasi

Here is another Blanasi mago from the same early 1970s period but it has not been used on tour. Typical Blanasi artwork and craftsmanship similar to the instrument below. It does not have the same degree of flare, however, backpressure is surprisingly strong and could even be described as intense. Blanasi preferred larger mouthpieces and this mago is evidence of that. We have left it in its original condition, however, you are welcome to reduce its diameter with sugarbag - please ask us if you need a small wad for this purpose.

This is another icon of an instrument, a real hummer of a player.

This mago belonged to David Blanasi's first manager and adviser, Mr Moore, who introduced Blanasi and artists from the Beswick community to the wider world in the early 1970s. The instrument was Blanasi's personal didgeridoo and one that had been used ceremonially and on tour.

This is a magnificent mago dripping with class and quality... How does it play? As the quintessential Blanasi mago would. An historically significant instrument, it is the jewel in the crown of iDIDJ Australia's Reference Collection.

Yidaki cognoscenti will appreciate the fine qualities in this instrument. Another 1950s classic collected at Milingimbi and made and painted by one of the Masters, this yidaki has been well-used and has an exhilirating nuanced voice complemented by superb backpressure. Take away the sublime ochre artwork and you'd think this were one of those supersonic sticks favoured by today's generation in eastern Arnhem Land.

This is another Masterpiece that was collected at Milingimbi in the 1950s. The wow factor is immediately apparent... the artwork knows no comparison in the hundreds of old and new instruments we've handled over 15 years of research and sourcing important instruments. There is a lot to like about the acoustics too: vibrant and full-bodied with a snappy overtone that comes naturally.

Loving life is so much easier with this yidaki around.

This yidaki was collected in the 1950s at Milingimbi community in north-central Arnhem Land. It is a particularly appealing instrument on account of its highly resonant and energetic acoustics, rare for an old instrument. The artwork is especially fine but considering the reputation of the artist (one of the Masters from the 'Golden Age' of bark paintings), this is not unusual at all.
