May is the tail end of the fruiting season or Midawarr in the Yolngu language, and the start of Dharratharramirri, the season when the cool winds - Dharratharra - blow. The bush is starting to dry up after the wet season and didgeridoo craftsmen are beginning to explore the forest and to harvest trees in greater numbers. Occasionally, small fires are lit to clear to bush, resulting in mosaic pattern burning. Dhapi' initiation ceremonies may be held from this season onwards, until the rains arrive during the early wet.
