January is Gunmul
or Ba:rra'mirri, the wet season
in the Yolngu language. Heavy rains continue to fall on most
days. People are mostly indoors or under shelter during the
day but when there is good weather there might be hunting
and other outdoor activities in family groups. The grass is
too long in the bush and the eucalyptus trees too wet for
making didjeridus. Magpie geese, gurrumattji, have
built their nest and are laying eggs.
