Authenticity
|
The overwhelming predominance of non-authentic didgeridoos
in the global market, together with the widespread misrepresentation
and mislabelling of instruments by non-Aboriginal craftsmen,
manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers, is of major concern
to iDIDJ Australia.
Links in this section will bring you to accounts of the sacred
origins of the didgeridoo, statements from a number of respected
Aboriginal leaders, and an overview of trends in the didgeridoo
industry.
A highlight of this section is the didgeridoo labelling system
that iDIDJ Australia has created. Examples of authentic instruments,
or CI 4 products, are shown as well as a variety of inauthentic
instruments commonly found in retail shops (CI 0 to CI 3 products).
It is hoped this system would go some way towards protecting
consumers from unethical retailers and unconscionable non-Indigenous
didgeridoo makers.
Visitors to this site who wish to report on questionable
products and retailers may do so through the 'Didgeridoo Detective'
link. We will endeavour to ascertain the authenticity and
origins of instruments for you, and will work with retailers
to ensure that systems are in place that are in agreement
with trade practices laws.
