In partnership with his wife Djilirrma, he was a career craftsman for several years and produced the most exquisite instruments that were a joy to play and at the same time a work of fine art.

This yidaki on offer is the best we have come across, an example that aspiring young yidaki players in Yirrkala practiced on and used.

This is a fun yidaki to play, those who were on Skype with myself and David Dharrapuy several months ago would have recognised this stick (see the iDIDJ Forum).

This is a brilliant player that is hard to put down and is something I regularly gravitate towards whenever I have a few spare moments to practice. The knobby, convoluted shape of this instrument gives it a very special type of acoustic signature which I feel drawn to, maybe it is that howling quality coupled with bassy response - in the key of G! This is a prized yidaki for the purist.

This is a fine mago made and painted by Dhugurun. Its acoustics are oriented towards the bass frequencies, but it is surprisingly fast and capable of responding to sudden changes in air pressure and subtle tongue movements. The sound chamber is gradually tapered giving nice back pressure, good power and a wonderful recoil effect when the tongue relaxes to the back of the oral cavity. Vocal transmissions come through nice and strong.

The artwork is amazing and among Dhugurun's finest.

Collected in the 1970s at Elcho Island by mission horticulturalist and mechanic, said to be made by a Willy Gurwiwi which I am almost certain is Djalu Gurruwiwi. Whoa! This mago bears too much of an uncanny resemblance to Blanasi's sticks, its kinda spooky. A superlative instrument with dreamy acoustics, the generous bell providing power, volume and perfect back pressure.

We could go on and on about this mago but space would not allow us to fully describe all its good qualities. Just take a listen to Darryl do his stuff... close your eyes and you could begin to imagine old Blanasi sitting there alongside him. Too good for words this one.

There's a lot to like about this mago from its compact textured voice to the beautiful rendition of bush yams decorating the lower half of this instrument. Take a good listen to the 10 YouTube video clips that form this fundraiser to decide what you like best... all things being almost equal, it might come down to the artwork.

Burduwal has a knack for finding great trees, all his mago are consistently light and conical-shaped, a true artist with exceptional talent. The sort of trees he harvests are quite unlike what yirdaki craftsmen take in NE Arnhem Land.

A scorcher of a mago playing in E flat fundamental with grunt and fireworks. This is a serious instrument for anyone passionate about the Kun-borrk style of play of which Darryl is the leading practitioner. Though Darryl is not 100% (having had a near-fatal heart attack in March 2009), his playing is still rock steady, goodonya Darryl!

The artwork on this and the other 9 mago specially commissioned from Burduwal are bold and innovative in line with Burduwal's appeal and recognition among collectors for his cutting edge work in fibrecrafts.

This is a vintage mago from the 1980s that shows good signs of usage and is an instrument that was made for local community use rather than for the art market. It is a Wangga-type instrument endemic to the north-west region of the Northern Territory.

The mago has strong, well-defined acoustics and is an outstanding player with fine characteristics to its voice. Peter Atjpurrki demonstrates Wangga didgeridoo accompaniment in the YouTube clip, the first countryman to breath life back into this stick for a long while... check it out!

The instrument has been decorated in earth pigments and displays a rustic charm all of its own. Note: the audio clip is different to the YouTube clip.

One for the collector interested in regional typicity, this is an aristocratic Port Keats marluk from the 1960s-70s period. A particularly beautiful expression of marluk, the vegetable and earth pigment decoration is highly distinctive and from a design point of view, knows no comparison in the iDIDJ Reference Collection.

Sonically, this marluk is in great playing condition for its age with no air leaks and a tight, textural structure to its acoustics. There is pure delight in its lively resonance, unusual for an old instrument.
