jason guwanbal yidaki didgeridoo
Maker: Jason Guwanbal guwanbal portraitComments:

This is a dreamy, aristocractic yidaki that redefines class. It is something that doesn't sound like anything else we have in stock and is one of 2 low-pitch yidaki in recent years that has enjoyed our appraisal as a Masterpiece. The other was also made by Guwanbal.

This is no dull droner. The combination of loudness, strong backpressure, bass response to die for, and nuanced acoustics gives this yidaki a distinct character. An exceptional voice is often associated with an exceptional, unworked bore, and this yidaki conforms to that expectation.

Maker: Dhugurun Gulungurr djapilawuy portraitComments:

This is an attractive and very appealing mago made by Dhugurun. It is best described as an old-school instrument reminiscent of 1960s and 1970s mago from Western and Southern Arnhem Land, more voluminous than most of Dhugurun's offerings. Acoustically, it has a 'fatter' sound with less predominance of frequencies in the higher register. It is still a responsive and lively instrument that is capable of fast complex WAL rhythms. It is particularly responsive to subtle tongue movements and diaphragmatic 'pushes'.

Raymond Marpin demonstrates his mesmerising Bungalinybungaliny style in the YouTuve video clip. Check it out!

djalu gurruwiwi yidaki didgeridoo
Maker: Djalu Gurruwiwi djalu portraitComments:

This is the quintessential Djalu Gurruwiwi yidaki... sublime, soft-edged overtone notes. That unmistakable thunderous quality to the acoustics which are rich, and darkly toned, and backed by a surprisingly good backpressure for a C fundamental.

Listen to the sound clip and watch the YouTube video and you'll see why this is an outrageously appealing yidaki that can be played slow as well as pushed to blistering speed. In the gear of C! Don't die wondering how good this yirdaki is...

larry winiwini yirdaki yidaki didgeridoo
Maker: Larry Winiwini winiwini portraitComments:

One of Larry Winiwini's greatest assets is his ability as a yidaki player. That skill enables him to craft exquisite instruments to precision, and he does so time and time again. This is one of them.

Better known for his E flats, Es, Fs and F#s, Winiwini has created quite a special lower-key instrument in this stick. With a generous bell and moderately thin walls throughout (the instrument weighs a mere 3.8 kg), this is a resonant, responsive yidaki that will rock your socks off.

burrngupurrngu yirdaki yidaki didgeridoo
Maker: Bruce Burrngupurrngu burrngupurrngu portraitComments:

This is a beautiful yidaki with compact, efficient acoustics. The bore is natural throughout and conically-shaped producing good back pressure. Walls are uniformly thin. There are no signs of repairs which attests to the care and patience of Burrngupurrngu in crafting this stick. The whole of the instrument is decorated in ochres, in red, white, yellow and black typically found on Burrngupurrngu's instruments.

Like all of Bruce's yirdaki that we hand-pick, this one has excellence written all over it. If you've yet to discover the magic of this Dhalwangu man's instruments, this one will provide a superb entree to the enchanting world of Burrngupurrngu.

elijah nabegeyo didgeridoo
Maker: Elijah Nabegeyo Comments:

Elijah Nabegeyo made and painted this gorgeous instrument last year at Mamardawerre, an outstation of Oenpelli. I personally collected this wuyimbal-type didgeridoo whilst in Arnhem Land, and was fortunate to meet a number of talented Indigenous artisans as well as catch up with old friends in communities on that trip. I love this instrument for its amazing ochre-artwork, the first and only kind of this type I've had the pleasure of playing. And to know Elijah is an artist whose artworks hang in commercial fine art galleries with big reputations is an added bonus. Oh... and the stick plays great! Beautiful mellow voice, lovely soft toots. This type of didgeridoo is used in some parts of Western Arnhem Land for overtone-present accompaniment to clan songs.

manakala mago didgeridoo
Maker: Manakala Gurralpa manakala portraitComments:

Manakala is a talented young man in his early 30s. His father Jack Wunuwun was a ceremonial leader and a famous artist. In addition to illustrating books, Wunuwun also provided mentorship to Lin Onus, a Koorie artist who went on to create artworks of international significance.

This mago was made and painted by Manakala at Mewinbi outstation in north-central Arnhem Land. It is a fine, fine instrument, among the top 5 mago from this region we have had the pleasure of promoting. This is one powerful stick with supreme WAL acoustics, amazing resonance, nice strong back pressure, and a beautiful conical bore.

djaworla mago didgeridoo
Maker: Gerard Djaworla Comments:

Another gorgeous mago made and painted by Djaworla. This one is adorned with rarrk cross-hatching throughout of designs possibly relating to country. Djaworla is in his late 40s and has been making mago for over 10 years. His style remains unaffected by outside influences, with instruments of simple rustic construction that are typically painted with elaborate yam motifs or repeating cross-hatched designs. His ochres are characteristically thick and not fixed with a binder.

This is a nice sounding mago with moderate backpressure and excellent richness to its acoustics.

sonya namarnyilk oenpelli mago didgeridoo
Maker: Sonya Namarnyilk namarnyilk portraitComments:

This is an excellent mago made and painted at Malworn outstation near Oenpelli in Western Arnhem Land, the first proper Kunwinjku instrument we've had that is fully-decorated in ochres. And what a stunning mago! Namarnyilk has depicted expressive Mimih (or Mimi) spirit figures with dilly bags, perhaps in the act of dancing, their heads arching skyward.

The instrument itself is remarkably resonant with excellent acoustics for the Kun-borrk style of play endemic to Western Arnhem Land. This is the only instrument we have from the talented Namarnyilk, don't miss out on this one-of-a-kind mago!

djalu gurruwiwi yirdaki didgeridoo
Maker: on application Comments:

This is a pretty special mago with an important history because of who made it, for what occasion, and who it was presented to on that occasion. Sounds mysterious doesn't it? Full details for this mago are available upon request to interested and genuine buyers.

In the meanwhile, watch and listen to Darryl Digarrnga play this awesome stick. You won't hear anything that comes remotely close!

This mago is covered from top to bottom in exquisite rarrk in ochre pigments. There are also figurative designs of goannas and snakes.

A didgeridoo fit for a king, and came close to it as a matter of fact...
