One hundred spears, ten canoes,
three wives... trouble. From a land not so far away, comes
a film unlike anything you have ever seen.
Almost 3 years in the making, Ten
Canoes is the result of a collaboration almost as extraordinary
as the film itself.
The great Indigenous actor David
Gulpilil had asked director Rolf de Heer (The Tracker, Bad
Boy Bubby, Alexander's Project) to make a film with his people,
on their traditional lands near Ramingining in the Northern
Territory. That country is the beautiful Arafura Swamp in
Central Arnhem Land, a swamp that is home to thousands of
crocodiles, millions of leeches and billions of mosquitoes...
